Standards — NFPA 1994, Class 2 and 3 and NFPA 1992
NFPA standards provide the necessary guidance to ensure maximum protection against contaminants — whether vapor, particulate, or liquid.
NFPA 1994, Standard on Protective Ensembles for First Responders to CBRN Terrorism Incidents
This standard specifies the minimum performance requirements for CBRN protective ensembles and ensemble elements for first responder personnel responding to incidents involving CBRN terrorism agents. There are three levels of protection based on the risk analysis of what is needed for the intended operations:
Class 2 — identified ChemBio hazards that are at or above IDLH
Class 3 — vapor or liquid chemicals hazards below IDLH
Class 4 — biological or radiological hazards below IDLH
NFPA 1992, Standard on Liquid Splash-Protective Ensembles and Clothing for Hazardous Materials Emergencies
This standard specifies liquid splash-protective ensembles designed to protect emergency response personnel during hazardous material emergencies from specific chemicals in a liquid splash environment. This standard also provides optional criteria for liquid splash-protective ensembles for escape protection only from chemical flash fires.
