Why Our Fabric?
See why these boots are superior.
GORE® CROSSTECH® footwear fabric leads the industry in providing durable protection and highly breathable comfort in leather boots. At Gore, we work with our licensed manufacturers to ensure that the final boots are the ultimate solution so you can stay on your feet and meet every challenge. No other manufacturer requires the level of testing Gore does to ensure the end product performs as intended.
Maximum Comfort from High Breathability
Leather boots with GORE® CROSSTECH® footwear fabric are optimized for breathability — the fabric’s ability to release moisture vapor from liquid sweat. Your feet can produce as much as one cup of perspiration over a 12-hour period. For this perspiration to escape, every layer in your boot needs to be highly breathable. Only boots made with GORE® CROSSTECH® footwear fabrics are tested for whole boot breathability, because we know that when boots are drier inside, the insulation protects better, feet don’t get clammy, and they stay healthier.
Durable Protection Beyond the Standard
We begin by ensuring that every boot liner is 100% waterproof, then challenge the finished boot to a battery of additional tests to ensure it’s ready for fireground challenges.
We could not find any volunteers to walk through 500 miles of water, so we developed a machine that verifies a boot’s interior stays dry even after it’s flexed 5X more than required by the NFPA 1971 Standard.
Breathable Protection from Liquids, Blood, and Body Fluids
You’re likely to run into many different liquids (everything from water to blood to gasoline) when you’re at an emergency scene. GORE® CROSSTECH® footwear fabric is the industry leader when it comes to protecting you from water, blood, body fluids, and common ground chemicals, while offering you unparalleled comfort in the form of breathability.
When you're running up and down stairs or climbing ladders, your footwear needs to weigh as little as possible so you can perform effectively. Leather boots made with GORE® CROSSTECH® footwear fabric are lightweight, form-fitting, and more comfortable.
For years, the industry has thought that leather boots provided better footing. A recent study showed that firefighters were more likely to have a hazardous slip or fall when wearing rubber boots than when wearing leather boots. And, based on NFPA and National Safety Council reports, preventing these injuries more than justifies the cost of buying leather boots.
It’s long been held that rubber boots decontaminate better than leather boots; however, we did a study that debunked this myth — leather actually decontaminates better than rubber. Read about the full study and view a video describing the results.
The Gore Advantage
Having footwear that withstands the conditions in which you work depends on the quality of the fabrics’ construction and the manufacturing process of the product. For more than 35 years, W. L. Gore & Associates has been a pioneer in developing high-performance barrier fabrics for first responder and military applications. At Gore, we work closely with our licensed manufacturers during initial boot design, rigorous laboratory and field testing, and final product performance — all to ensure that you can be confident your footwear does what we say it will do.
Warning: No products, including garments, footwear, and gloves, protect completely, even when new; their protective performance will decline with wear, tear, abrasion, and other damage associated with use.
