When you're running up and down stairs or climbing ladders, your footwear needs to weigh as little as possible so you can perform effectively. Leather boots made with GORE® CROSSTECH® footwear fabric average 2.5 pounds less than rubber boots. Studies have shown that extra weight of this magnitude requires more than 35 percent additional work, which significantly increases your fatigue as you perform strenuous activities. Also, because leather boots are more form-fitting, they are more comfortable.

A recent study showed that firefighters were more likely to have a hazardous slip or fall when wearing rubber boots than when wearing leather boots. And, based on NFPA and National Safety Council reports, preventing these injuries more than justifies the cost of buying leather boots.
