The GORE® CHEMPAK® Overgarment with Stretch Technology is designed to deliver protection against a broad range of threats in liquid, vapor and aerosol form, while providing a step change in improved mobility and reduced physiological burden. The liner is designed with GORE® CHEMAPAK® selectively permeable fabric with a non-CB protective outer garment.

This overgarment is designed to break the historical paradigm associated with carbon by delivering durable, broad protection with improved operational effectiveness. GORE® CHEMPAK® selectively permeable fabric delivers protection against a wide range of chemical and biological hazards in liquid, vapor, and aerosol form. It is designed to continue to protect after wear and after exposure to Battlefield contaminates, such as wet sweat, JP-8, and hydraulic fluid.

Meeting the Evolving Threat

When considering the recent evolution and use of chemical warfare agents (CWA’s) and toxic industrial chemicals (TICs), broader protection is required. This must include protection against:

  • Traditional chemical warfare agents in vapor form
  • Toxic Industrial Chemicals (TICs)
  • Aerosolized particulates (such as contaminated sand)
  • Liquid under force (ie. when kneeling or wearing combat equipment)
  • Biological hazards

Heat Stress Management

The protective fabric is made from a breathable film which allows moisture vapor to escape. This reduces the thermal burden and improves operational effectiveness. Gore conducted ISO 11092 RET testing on the laminate. This testing is the only international standard that focuses on the physiological effects of fabrics. These quantifiable results allow comparisons between fabrics and has been correlated to human comfort by a third party research institute. Testing the fabric yielded a result of 8.3 m2 *Pa/W, which meets the definition of highly breathable.

Improved Mobility & Operational Effectiveness

The lightweight, thin fabric allows for significant weight and pack volume reduction. Design elements such as integrated suspenders and quick-don hood, gloves and other elements significantly improve mobility and overall wearer comfort. Further, the optional incorporation of stretch panels provides a step-change in overall mobility which has a direct impact on operational effectiveness.

Strategic Stretch Panels

Utilized in key places to maximize mobility in a wide range of upper and lower body movements. Due to the use of stretch fabric, overall bulk is reduced, which leads to improve fit and integration with combat load. Additionally, the use of stretch fabrics reduces the air gap between the body and the fabric, which is anticipated to deliver improved system level protection with reduced thermal burden. In addition to improved mobility, the use of stretch fabrics also reduce system bulk and noise reduction.
