CROSSTECH® Black Moisture Barrier
Just because most moisture barriers used in the United States meet the minimum performance requirements specified in NFPA 1971 (2007 edition), they don’t all perform equally. Engineered with the latest technology to provide long-lasting protection and breathability, CROSSTECH® black moisture barrier does not lose its high breathability even after exposure to extreme heat, and its improved durability helps you comply with the NFPA 1851 Standard.
Latest generation of highly breathable moisture barrier
Based on the newest barrier technology now available in our durable, breathable military fabrics, this new two-layer barrier maintains the same high level of breathability as our original two-layer barrier, with the added benefit of more durable performance in a wide range of environmental conditions.
One of the most noticeable differences in this new barrier is its color — black. The black color itself doesn’t make the barrier more durable. What does is the collection of technologies we apply to this product, including our latest advances in engineering and manufacturing ePTFE membranes and laminates also used in the third generation of the US Army’s ECWCS outerwear. CROSSTECH® black moisture barrier’s improved durability will help you comply with the NFPA 1851 standard. Reduced heat stress and excellent thermal stability
CROSSTECH® black moisture barrier has a high total heat loss (THL), which means you experience less heat stress. Unlike some other barriers, this product withstands high heat exposure and still delivers excellent breathability and reliable waterproofness.
Durable protection beyond NFPA standards
Moisture barriers should protect you against liquid penetration on every call, not just the first few. Compared to our original two-layer barrier, CROSSTECH® black moisture barrier has maintained the same high breathability in lab tests, and field testing showed that it remained significantly more liquid-proof and less prone to damage. This new moisture barrier delivers durable protection call after call after call. Backed by a five-year warranty, this moisture barrier helps your department work toward compliance with the NFPA 1851 standard.
The Gore Advantage
Having turnout gear that withstands the conditions in which you work depends on the quality of the fabrics’ construction and the manufacturing process of the garment. For more than 30 years, W. L. Gore & Associates has been a pioneer in developing high-performance moisture barriers for fire, EMS, military, law enforcement, and homeland security applications. At Gore, we work closely with our gear manufacturers during initial gear design, rigorous laboratory and field testing, and final product performance — all to ensure that the moisture barrier in your turnout gear does what we say it will do.
WARNING: No products, including garments, footwear, and gloves, protect completely, even when new; their protective performance will decline with wear, tear, abrasion, and other damage associated with use.
